Launch of the project Gresys
GRESYS – Green stories from youth to stage is an ERASMUS+ small-scale partnership project in the youth field, run by an Italian and two French cultural organisations: Teatro alla Guilla, La Transplanisphère and ALTER EGO (X).The project started in May 2023 and will finish on 1 August 2024.
The project aims to raise young people’s awareness of the objectives of the UN’s Agenda 2030, by highlighting your own ecological experiences and commitments through theatrical narration.
Project concept: an ecological approach to theatre
Alarmed by reports from institutions about the feeling of social exclusion among young people since the pandemic, which has a major impact on their learning capacity, as well as their concerns about the environment, our aim is to support them through training on ecological issues by combining an artistic practice, theatre, and a reference text, the Agenda 2030.
We are convinced that theatre, as an informal educational tool, is one of the most appropriate ways of encouraging young people to understand and take ownership of the Agenda 2030. It is capable of stimulating their creativity, encouraging collective work and restoring their self-confidence. The choice of this text is strategic, because it is both contemporary and essential. What’s more, it is written in the form of concrete actions and contexts that are easily linked to the experiences of young people.
GRESYS therefore aims to create theatre workshops based, on the one hand, on the artistic translation of the Agenda 2030 and, on the other, on the collection of ecological stories from young people, supervised by professionals from the cultural sector. These workshops will culminate in the creation of two performances, one in France and one in Italy, in which the young people will play the roles of actors and authors. Their stories will form the main narrative, using the storytelling technique.
Timeline of the project
Collecting testimonies from young people about their commitment
Period: June 2023 – September 2023
The Transplanisphere, in collaboration with Alter Ego, will undertake the collection of testimonies from young people about their commitment. The aim is to create a script based on these testimonies, which will then be used to develop theatrical performances. This activity will give a voice to young people and highlight their experiences of commitment.
To this end, a questionnaire will be distributed to secondary school students to gather their testimonies. The questionnaire will cover topics such as the causes to which they are committed, the actions they have undertaken and the challenges they have encountered. The aim is to obtain a variety of testimonials that reflect the diversity of young people’s commitments.
Workshops of La Transplanisphère
Period: October 2023 – January 2024
La Transplanisphère will organise two 8-day workshops as part of the project. The first workshop will be in Annecy and will be attended by 25 young people. The second workshop will be in Palermo, Italy, and will also train the Italian facilitator.
The aim of the workshops is to work on creating theatrical performances based on the testimonies collected. The young participants will have the opportunity to express themselves through the art of physical theatre, using their own creativity and working together. This will develop their artistic skills and strengthen their commitment.
Creative workshops run by Alter Ego
Alter Ego will run creative workshops to develop the theatrical performances based on the testimonies collected.
These workshops will take place after the La Transplanisphère workshops and will enable the young participants to work in depth on the content, staging and performance of the plays.
The creative workshops will be an opportunity for young people to become actively involved in the artistic process and hone their theatrical expression.
Organisation of the performance event
Transplanisphere will be responsible for organising the event at which the plays created will be performed. The event will take place over 5 days in Paris in the summer of 2024.
The aim of the event is to enable the young participants to present their work to a wider audience, including their peers, theatre professionals and people interested in youth engagement issues. This will provide visibility for the young artists and give them a unique opportunity to share their stories and provoke thought among the audience.
