The “Aunties” at Carreau du Temple, Paris

On November 27, 2024, Le Carreau du Temple hosted the residency showcase of the Aunties project, presenting an excerpt from their new performance IYA. This creation emerged from a period of artistic research and experimentation in residence in Paris, bringing together multiple influences and intersecting trajectories. La Transplanisphère accompanied this process.

Under the artistic direction of Caleb Rimtobaye, also known as AFROTRONIX, a recognized figure of the Afro-futurist scene, the residency made it possible to explore a hybrid stage language combining music, dance, and dramaturgy. Chadian choreographer Taïgué Ahmet (collaborator of La Transplanisphère since June 2024) guided the performers’ physical and choreographic work, in constant dialogue with AFROTRONIX’s sound and visual creations.

La Transplanisphère also contributed to this process by providing dramaturgical insight, thanks to the intervention of Bruno Freyssinet, helping to shape the narrative and the civic resonances of the piece. True to its mission of fostering transnational artistic cooperation, the company here contributed to strengthening the bridges between Paris and N’Djamena, between contemporary African creation and the European stage.

Acknowledgments: Le Carreau du Temple, Campus France – French Embassy in Chad, and the Canada Council for the Arts. Special thanks to Seybah Dagoma.
